What Can We Do about Delta Variant?

The Delta variant is here.

What is it? First identified in India, the Delta variant is a more dangerous and transmissible form of the novel coronavirus that has spread to at least 77 countries and regions. It is expected to become the dominant coronavirus strain around the world.

What can we do to protect our loved ones, the community, and ourselves from this highly infectious COVID19 variant? In this blog, we will explore the things we have to continue doing despite high vaccination rates.

Keep Wearing Masks and Social Distancing

The World Health Organization (WHO) is urging fully vaccinated people to continue wearing face masks and follow physical distancing measures as the Delta variant spurs new COVID-19 outbreaks around the world. While COVID-19 vaccines have shown to be effective in preventing severe disease and death, including against the new Delta variant, fully vaccinated people can still be part of its transmission chain if measures aren’t maintained.

Disinfect with Vital Oxide

Vital Oxide is authorized by the EPA and Health Canada for use against all strains of SARS-CoV-2, including the highly contagious Delta variant strain of COVID-19. With a drug identification number (DIN02422654), Vital Oxide is on Health Canada’s list of hard-surface disinfectants for use against COVID19. The disinfetcants on this list are expected to be effective against all strains of SARS-CoV-2, as genetic changes to the virus are unlikely to impact the efficacy of disinfectants.

To maintain a safe and clean environment, disinfect your facility with Vital Oxide on a daily basis to prevent the potential spread of the virus. Vital Oxide can be used for non-porous surfaces at full strength. For high-traffic areas and high-touch points, preclean the surface and then apply Vital Oxide using a sprayer or fogger. In this way, less time and solution is needed for better disinfection and larger coverage.

For soft surfaces such as carpet, rugs, and drapes, dilute 5-parts water to 1-part disinfectant and spray onto the surfaces from a distance of 6-8 inches. For food contact surface and daily disinfection, dilute 9-parts water to 1-part Vital Oxide.

Get Fully Vaccinated

Experts say the Delta variant spreads more easily becasue of mutations that make it better at latching onto cells in our bodies. Can vaccines keep us protected? Studies have shown that available vaccines work against variants, including the Delta variant. Researchers in England studied how effective the two-dose AstraZeneca and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines were against it, compared with the alpha variant. The vaccinates were protective for those who got both doses but were less effective for those who only got one dose. This is why experts say it’s important to be fully vaccinated.
